The Web Content API is deprecated. Use the News, Blogs & Forums APIs instead - same content, one endpoint per content type, and where new features land.
Besides the q query, you can narrow results with filter parameters passed directly in the URL. They behave like query filters but keep q clean.

Prefix any filter with exclude_ to remove matching posts:
&exclude_site_type=discussions&exclude_country=RU
These filters describe the source site or thread:
url, site, site_full, site_section, section_title, site_type, country, replies_count, participants_count, performance_score, domain_rank, rating.
They map to the thread.* fields in the response.
Use the topic filter inside q, for example:
q=topic:"climate change"
topic: supports 629 topics derived from IPTC levels 2 and 3 and grouped under the 17 categories. Values are case-insensitive; quote values containing spaces. Examples include election, economy, climate change, cyber crime, cancer, tennis, terrorism, and cinema.
Topic classification supports English, Spanish, French, Italian, Catalan, Portuguese, Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, German, Russian, and Hindi. Trust-based filtering may also classify content in additional languages.
By default, syndicated (republished) duplicates are excluded. To include them:
&includeSyndicated=true
The same conditions can be written inside q. Filters are just a convenient, separate way to express them.
